Fall 2025 Move-In Days 

  • First-time freshmen for Aug. 16 and 17, 2025, by appointment only
  • Continuing students for Aug. 21 through 23, 2025, by appointment only

Check-In Time: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., by appointment only

Late Arrivals: Arriving outside these scheduled times should be coordinated with our office. The student will contact their building's RA/CA on Duty to check in.

Help us welcome new Ragin’ Cajuns to campus by volunteering for Move-In 2025! Greet students and families, lend a hand with unloading, and be part of an unforgettable experience. Volunteers get a free T-shirt, meal voucher, snacks, and plenty of Ragin&) does not need to set a move-in appointment. The coordinator of the program has already coordinated a move-in date/time. Contact your Program Coordinator for specific move-in times and instructions.

The deadline to schedule your Move-In Appointment is July 31, 2024. Failure to schedule an appointment will result in the Office of University Housing scheduling a time for you. Please choose your move-in appointment carefully. You should only arrive on campus for move-in at your appointment time. This helps to ensure things go quickly when you arrive for check-in.

As we get closer to Move-In, you'll also receive helpful information via University email about Move-In, including hall-specific unloading and parking maps. Please make sure to check your email as this information will help you get through your Move-In Day smoothly.

Note: Sorority and fraternity recruitment events will take place AFTER classes begin. Students who are participating in recruitment will move into their assigned dorm during their selected Move-In day and time. 

Preparing for Move-In

Information about Move-In – including unloading/parking maps and building-specific information – can be found here. There’s also a checklist of suggested “What to Bring/What Not to Bring” items.

Residents living in a suite style, and junior suite style will have their bathroom and common areas cleaned regularly by our housekeeping staff and are responsible for providing their own toilet paper and cleaning supplies. Traditional style residents will have toilet paper and paper towels provided in the community bathroom and the community bathroom will be cleaned regularly by our housekeeping staff. Apartment residents are responsible for providing their own toilet paper and cleaning their spaces regularly. 

A list of suggested items to bring can be found below. Please note the items not to bring. All of these items are prohibited and come with a fine associated if found on campus.

First-Time Freshmen Move-In

Packing for college may feel intimidating and you may not know what to bring. A good rule of thumb is to bring what will make your space feel like home. Listed below are a few suggestions. We suggest discussing these items with your roommate/suitemates to coordinate the common area items so you don't have duplicates. If you are unsure if something is allowed or not and it is not explicitly listed here, contact us before bringing it to campus.

  • Bedding and linens (Twin XL size for all residential halls)
  • Storage containers for under your bed
  • Shower curtain and shower curtain rings (shower rod is provided)
  • High-efficiency laundry detergent (the pods work great!) and dryer sheets
  • Hygiene and grooming products (soap, shampoo, deodorant, hair dryer, curler or straightener, shaver, etc.)
  • Laundry baskets (find one with wheels)
  • White sticky tack/dorm tape/Command strips for hanging decor (but note that Command strips can damage walls if not removed properly)
  • Plunger
  • Microwave/mini fridge: both are provided in the suite styles but residents are allowed to have personal ones in their rooms (mini fridges must be 31" or less to fit under the beds and under 4.5 cubic feet and microwaves must be under 700 watts)
  • Toiletries: toilet paper, shower curtain, personal items, towels, tissues
  • Clothing hangers
  • Door mirror
  • Alarm clock
  • Smart TV or TV with Fire TV Stick 
  • Cleaning supplies: broom, mop, dust pan, Clorox wipes, small vacuum 
  • Laptop and printer with a wired connection (though there are computer labs across campus)
  • Reusable dishes, cups and utensils
  • Power strips
  • Padlock for your armoire: only for Baker, Huger, and Agnes Edwards Halls 
  • Collapsible rolling cart: to help with move-in and move-out but also to help bring groceries and supplies to and from the building to the vehicle
  • Thermometer and other typical medical supplies like bandaids, Tylenol, etc. 
  • Hand sanitizers

Items allowed as long as they are properly cleaned and stored:

  • Air fryers
  • Beverage and coffee makers, like a Keurig, with an automatic shut-off
  • Slow cookers with an automatic shut-off
  • Rice cookers
  • Air freshener plug-ins (i.e., Wallflowers)
  • Pets of any kind (even fishbowl!)
  • Wi-fi routers (you will be charged a $200 fine every time you're caught using one!)
  • Pull-up bars
  • Candles or incense
  • Window air conditioners 
  • Candle or wax warmers
  • Coffee makers without an automatic shut-off
  • Space heaters, electric heating blankets
  • Any item from the IT Department's Problematic Device list - including wireless printers
  • Hoverboards (campus-wide policy)
  • Vape, tobacco, or alcohol, including empty alcohol bottles (campus-wide policy)
  • Exposed heating elements like toasters, toaster ovens, convection ovens, etc. (if it gets red, it’s a no-no)
  • Weapons (campus-wide policy)
  1. Print your QR Code: This will expedite your check-in process. This QR code is unique to your appointment and room.
    1. You can bring up to 2 vehicles to the check-in and unloading area.
  2. Confirm your move-in appointment time: The Housing Office will send an email to confirm your appointment times. Please ensure you arrive only during your scheduled appointment time.
  3. Check-in: When entering Lafayette via I-10, turn onto University Avenue and proceed to W. Congress St. and turn right. You will then take a left at St. Mary Blvd. (use to get to that intersection). Then you will proceed to St. Landry St.
    1. All First-Time Freshman students living in residential halls will check in at the Health Sciences Campus at during official Move-In check-in times. If you are arriving after the appointment times, please check in at your hall.
  4. You will receive your key, Ozzi coin, and parking passes for Move-In. You must go through check-in before proceeding to the unloading area. 

After checking in at the Health Sciences Campus, you should make your way to your unloading zone:

  • Coronna, Bonin, and Harris Hall: Follow the pink signs!
    • Turn right onto St. Mary Blvd. and drive toward Johnston St. Stay in the left lane after you cross Johnston St.
    • Turn left on Hebrard Blvd. and then right on Boucher Street into the unloading area.
      • E. St. Mary Blvd. will be contraflowed for move-in. Follow the ULPD officer's directions along E. St. Mary Blvd.
      • Once in the unloading area, park diagonally along Boucher Street to unload
      • You have 20 minutes to unload, and someone must stay with the car at all times.
  • Baker and Huger Halls: Follow the royal blue signs!
    • Turn right onto St. Mary Blvd. and drive toward Johnston St. Stay in the right lane after you cross Johnston St.
    • Turn left on McKinley St. and then right on Tulane Ave. Turn into the Hamilton Hall lot for unloading
      • E. St. Mary Blvd. will be contraflowed for move-in. Follow the ULPD officer's directions along E. St. Mary Blvd.
      • The unloading zone is in the Hamilton Hall lot as well as the Olivier Parking Tower.
      • You have 20 minutes to unload, and someone must stay with the car at all times.
  • Agnes Edwards Hall: turn left on St. Mary Blvd., then left on St. Landry St., left on St. Julien St., left on Johnston St., and right on E. Lewis St. Then turn left onto Rex St and park in front of the hall for unloading
    • Rex Street will be reversed for August 16 and 17 move-in days.
    • The unloading zone is on the left side of Rex Street.
    • You have 20 minutes to unload, and someone must stay with the car at all times. 

Unload your belongings

  • Residents can begin the unloading process. Remember that you have 20 minutes to unload. After that, you should then move your car to your designated parking area.
  • You will only be allowed to have 2 vehicles in the unloading areas, and someone should stay with the car at all times.
    • The cars entering the unloading area must have a parking pass from check-in.
  • Note that the elevators will only be used to transport residents' belongings to their floors. Residents and their helpers will have to take the stairs to get to their rooms.
  • Please be courteous to other Ragin' Cajuns and move your car as soon as you are done unloading.

Parking

Move the resident's car to its designated parking area (only cars with parking permits should park in the student parking areas). Note that these parking areas are only valid for Move-In. By the start of the semester, you should be parked in your permitted area. Any non-permit cars parked in these areas after Move-In risk being ticketed by the Office of Transportation. 

  • Coronna, Bonin, and Harris Halls: Taft Parking Tower
  • Baker and Huger Halls: Olivier Parking Tower
  • Agnes Edwards Hall: Lot behind Cajun Village Apartments
  • Any parents/family/extra cars should park in Girard Parking Tower and the lot behind Cajun Village Apartments

Continuing Students Move-In

Unload your belongings

  • Residents can begin the unloading process. Remember that you have 20 minutes to unload. After that, you should move your car to your designated parking area.
  • You will only be allowed to have 2 vehicles in the unloading areas, and someone should stay with the car at all times.
  • Please be courteous to other Ragin' Cajuns and move your car as soon as you are done unloading.
  • Boxes on wheels will be available, but no volunteers will be at continuing students move-in
